SINOVA-M-14035 Serum Amyloid A (SAA) Quantitative Test Kit
Clinical Significance: Similar to CRP, SAA is used to evaluate the acute phase response process. SAA is a sensitive parameter that begins to rise approximately 8 hours after the onset of an inflammatory response and exceeds the upper reference limit earlier than CRP. However, the difference between the median value and the upper reference limit for CRP in healthy individuals is about tenfold, while it is only fivefold for SAA. In mild infections, such as many viral infections, an increase in SAA is more common than an increase in CRP. In infectious diseases, the absolute increase in SAA is higher than CRP, making SAA measurement particularly useful for differentiating between "normal" and minor acute phase responses. Approximately two-thirds of patients with the common cold show elevated SAA, while less than half show elevated CRP. In cases of viral infections, elevated levels of both SAA and CRP are observed in patients with adenovirus infections.
